Cordless Tools

Convenient and easy to operate, cordless power tools provide substantial power for home fix-it jobs.

Screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grass shears, hand vacuum cleaners, lanterns, string trimmers and hedge trimmers have all received cordless applications. They are powered by rechargeable batteries and the recharging unit plugs into any 110-120V outlet.

Versatility and savings have been further increased with the “power package.” A single rechargeable battery adapts to various product heads, offering substantial savings.

In addition, with technological advances in batteries, portable power supplies offer increased performance. But the more strenuous the job, the greater effect it will have on the operating time and efficiency of the tool. Horsepower or battery strength is not the only measure of a cordless tool’s performance; the efficiency of the motor must be taken into account, too. In their top-of-the-line cordless drills, manufacturers are using rare-earth magnets in the motors to boost their power.

Other advances have also resulted in shortened recharging times and some tools are available with quick-charge power packs that cut this time even further-less than 30 minutes. Better-quality cordless drills are now being designed with a fan for continuous use.

In addition, drill/drivers with torque control allow the same tool to be used for drilling and driving screws. Environmental concerns have made the recycling of cordless batteries an increasingly important issue.
