General house and garden gloves are cotton or cotton combined with another material – vinyl-coated or plastic-impregnated cotton, cotton backs with plastic ribbed or leather palms, unlined, with cotton flannel or wool lining, etc.
Weight and firmness of material give some indication of how hard the gloves will wear; plastic coating indicates that the gloves will turn a reasonable amount of dampness.
Glove material is related to its use – rubber for wet tasks, leather to prevent rubbing and blistering, knit wrists for yard work, etc.
Gauntlet gloves, especially long gauntlets, offer protection against poisonous weeds if the customer has a lot of heavy underbrush and weeds to clear out.
Because many sprays used to kill weeds and fertilize soil contain chemicals that can harm the skin, liquid-proof vinyl or neoprene-coated gauntlets should be recommended for full protection.
